The goal of our programs are to provide a fun and positive experience that will promote a lifelong love of skating. Olympic national governing bodies U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and US Speedskating support Learn to Skate USA® for the many health, social and developmental benefits gained through ice skating.

Classes include 30 minutes of group instruction each week, membership in Learn to Skate USA and free entry to public sessions.

The Curriculum: The Sport-O-Rama Skating School utilizes US Figure Skating’s Learn to Skate USA instructional program for all group classes. The program teaches a logical progression of skill development designed to increase interest and participation in ice skating.

The lessons of Basic 1-6  teach the fundamentals of ice skating and provide foundation for figure skating, hockey and speed skating.

LEARN TO SKATE USA Membership included

Important Program Policies: Make-Ups: There are no make ups for any missed classes. Refunds: Requests for refunds for withdrawal from a class may be made up to two weeks into the session. The refund will be provided on a pro-rated basis.  A $25.00 administrative fee applies to any class withdrawals/requests for refunds.

Below are some helpful tips for first time group participants

Comfortable clothes with the ability to move about freely. Layers with a jacket should be worn.

  • Sweatpants/warm-up pants are better than bulkier snow pants.

  • Skaters can discard layers as they get warmer.

  • Wear Gloves or mittens!

  • Socks - one pair of lightweight socks or thinner tights work best. Bulky, thick socks limit support and create uncomfortable bumps inside your boots.

  • Arrive Early -Show up a good 20 minutes before class kicks off. Check in at the registration desk at the entrance to the rink. Once Checked in please pick up skates at the rental counter (if needed). There is no charge for rental skates for participants in the group lesson program.
